The London blue topaz is an oval in deep steely blue, raised on prongs and ringed completely by small black spinels set close in a dark halo. That black border does something specific: it removes the bright metal from around the stone, so the blue reads lit from within instead of competing with a shining rim. Two small groups of white topaz sit at either side of the head, where the shoulders cross under and over each other.
The shank splits and crosses beneath the head, which gives the ring a ribbon profile from the side rather than a flat one. Silver, black, and steel blue is a narrow palette, and the little white clusters are the only relief in it. Ring size 6 US.
