Two emerald cut London blue topaz, closely matched to each other, carry the deep steel blue that gives the variety its name. Each sits in a plain four prong basket of white metal with almost nothing between the stone and the light, so the long step facets are the only pattern anywhere on the piece.
At 9 by 7 millimeters the stones cover the lobe without reaching past it, and nearly four carats across the pair puts real material into a stud that still lies flat.
