Ninety eight amethysts carry the whole of this necklace. A graduated line of ovals runs around the neck and draws to a point at the front, then splits into two drops of unequal length, each finishing in a small round cluster of petals set about a center stone. There is no chain anywhere in the piece and no plain run of metal; every link is a set stone.
Yellow gold plating deepens the purple where the stones gather closest at the front, and because the two drops hang free they swing a little against the sternum with movement. Thirty two carats spread across ninety eight stones keeps each one small, which is exactly what lets the line bend the way it does.
