A marquise aquamarine of 1.84 carats lies point to point along the finger, each tip caught in a slim V shaped claw so the outline stays unbroken. The blue is pale and watery, and because the cut runs long and shallow through the belly the stone gathers light in broad soft sheets rather than hard flashes.
Behind it the shoulders widen into three tapering rows of pave, fifty four diamonds at 0.25 carats altogether, narrowing steadily until they run out and the 14K white gold band continues plain to the back. Underneath, the gallery is left open with the shaped claw tips visible, which makes the setting look lighter than its width suggests. The ring comes at size 7 US.
