An emerald cut fire opal of 5.45 carats, worked on a rectangular outline with cropped corners and wide step facets across the crown. The body color is a warm saturated orange that holds evenly from corner to corner, and the stone is transparent enough that the pavilion facets read straight through the table as long angled bands.
Step cutting suits material this color, returning broad slow flashes rather than the scattered sparkle of a brilliant.
