A single oval ruby fills each stud, held by four yellow gold prongs that grip at the ends of the long axis and leave the girdle open along both sides. Nothing frames the stone and nothing sits beside it, so the entire 7 by 5 millimeter face is red. Light returns from the wide table in broad flashes rather than fine glitter, which is how a shallow oval crown tends to behave.
The 10K yellow gold shows only in the prongs and the cups behind them, warm enough to hold the red rather than cut a cool edge against it. Just over a carat across the pair, these read as color at the lobe, legible across a room without reading as large.
