Each earring is an oval openwork plaque, its face worked into milgrain edged ribbons and set throughout with small white stones, with a single oval tanzanite held in a plain bezel at the center. Because the bezel is an unbroken rim, the violet blue reads as one clean shape against all the fine detail around it, and the pierced back keeps the plaque light.
Sterling silver holds the frame cool and leaves the tanzanite as the only color on the piece. The plaques hang from leverbacks and swing just clear of the lobe; at 35 by 11 millimeters they are long enough to catch movement without covering the ear.
