The frame on this pendant is doubled and open. An oval tanzanite of 5.42 carats is claw set at the middle, ringed first by a close halo of round diamonds, then, across an open gap, by a second oval band of pavé. Four small pavé teardrops bridge that gap at the top, the bottom and both sides, each pointing inward toward the stone, and they are what tie the two frames together and give the face its worked, openwork character.
At 5.42 carats the tanzanite carries the blue easily on its own, with the violet running deepest through the upper half of the oval. Everything is 14K white gold, which stays out of the color's way entirely. The 0.46 carats of diamond is spread across the halo, the outer band and the four bridges, so light reaches the full 30 by 20 millimeter outline instead of massing at the center.
