The build is concentric. An opal cabochon holds the middle, a tight halo of small round diamonds encircles it in white metal, and beyond that sits an outer wreath of eight oval sapphires laid alternately in pink, red, orange and yellow. The face reads almost circular on the hand and stands well clear of the finger.
A cabochon returns light as one moving sheet rather than as separate flashes, so the opal's greens and pinks travel across the dome while the faceted sapphires around it stay fixed and bright. Sterling silver keeps the frame neutral between the two effects. A cocktail ring in the full sense, at size 7.
