A domed pink coral cabochon holds the middle, its surface faintly grained and warm where everything around it runs cool. Oval and pear amethysts radiate outward in two tiers, each claw set and picked out by rows of small round diamonds, so the face of the ring resolves into a flower rather than a mass of purple.
Scale is the point. The head spans most of the finger between the knuckles and carries 3.54 carats of amethyst around a 2.30 carat coral, with 0.24 carats of diamond threading the gallery and darkened silver behind the stones to keep the colors apart. Size 7.5 US, and a cocktail ring in the fullest sense: wide, high, and built to be looked at.
