A domed oval of pink opal fills the face of this ring, its cabochon surface returning one soft, even glow instead of facet flashes. It is held in a warm rose-toned collet, and from that edge a ballerina halo of white topaz opens outward, baguettes and rounds alternating so the frame reads as short rays rather than a plain circle of stones.
The two metal colors do the quiet work here: rose close around the opal, white through the topaz frame, which keeps the pink from flattening out. At 5.08 carats the opal is broad enough to make this a cocktail ring, and the cluster spans most of the width of the finger it sits on. Size 6 US.
