The rubellite is an emerald cut, stepped facets and clipped corners, and its red is deep and full rather than pale pink. A complete halo of small round diamonds runs the full perimeter of the stone, and a plain yellow gold bail lifts the whole head to the chain. Warm metal against warm stone concentrates the color instead of cooling it.
Step cutting behaves differently from a brilliant: broad flat flashes across the table rather than a fine scatter, so color reads first and light second. At 21 by 12 millimeters this is a compact drop, sitting just below the hollow of the throat where an open neckline frames it.
