Each stud takes a square step cut rubellite with clipped corners and sets it inside a cushion shaped halo of small round diamonds. The step cut is the interesting choice: rather than scattering light the way a brilliant would, its parallel facets hold the pink-red as broad flat planes, leaving the halo to supply all the sparkle at the perimeter.
At 10 by 10 millimeters they cover the lobe without reaching past it, and from a few feet away they read as two clean squares of color inside a bright white border. 2.46 carats of rubellite and 0.22 carats of diamonds across the pair, mounted in 14K white gold.
