Pear cut rubies give this one its outline. Each stone is prong set with the point trailing in the same direction as the one before it, and a small round diamond fills the gap where the point of one pear meets the shoulder of the next. The row therefore has a distinct direction to it rather than pure symmetry.
Yellow gold under a strong pinkish red is the traditional pairing, and at 4.98 carats over seven inches the pears stay small enough to lie flat. The 0.12 carats of diamond does nothing more than mark the joins. A box clasp with a hinged safety catch holds it closed.
