Each drop is built in three stages down a long yellow gold wire: a round diamond sits just below the ear, then a small crossed link, then an open teardrop frame of gold that cradles an oval ruby at the bottom. The diamonds worked into the lower curve of that frame follow the ruby around its underside and give the drop its outline. There is no continuous line of stones running the length of the earring.
The rubies read a bright raspberry red against the yellow gold rather than anything dark, and at 0.59 carats for the pair they are small enough that the open frame around them carries much of the visual weight. Twenty-three millimeters of drop, seven across.
