An oval ruby fills the middle of each earring, its red running bright and pink rather than dark, with twenty claw set diamonds standing around it. Every small stone sits in its own pair of claws, which leaves the outer edge of the halo spiked and lets a little gold show between the points.
Twelve by ten millimeters registers from across a room while still lying flat on the lobe. Worn, the gold and the ruby share a similar warmth, so the diamonds do most of the contrast work.
