The heart is domed and pave set nearly edge to edge in small round rubies, a warm pink red that covers the entire face. Through it sweeps a crescent of round white sapphires, curling in from the upper left and spiralling into the middle so the two colors interlock rather than sitting in separate halves.
Several dozen stones make up the 2.62 carats, and that is what allows the pave to follow the curve of the heart so closely, right around the cleft at the top and down to the point. A fluted bail carries it on a fine cable chain; at the neck, the white spiral is what the eye picks up first.
