An oval ruby of 1.74 carats, dark and saturated, is claw set at the centre of a close halo of small round white topaz. The halo follows the oval exactly, one stone deep, which keeps the outline compact at 19 by 10 mm and lets the pendant sit neatly in the hollow of the throat.
Sterling silver throughout, with a plain squared bail and an 18 inch cable chain. The white topaz border does the work of making a modest stone read larger from across a room.
