This is a pavé ring rather than a solitaire. The 3.30 carats of ruby are divided among close to a hundred small round stones, set shoulder to shoulder across a raised oval dome so that the entire face of the ring is red.
The settings are blackened, and that is a deliberate choice: darkened metal between the stones removes the bright silver flecks that would otherwise break up the field, letting the rubies read as one continuous surface. A polished silver rib runs around the crown of the dome and separates it from an outer border of larger rubies set around the rim. The dome stands well proud of the finger and covers a good width across the top. Sterling silver, ring size 7 US.
