The ruby is an oval in deep purplish-red, circled completely by a halo of small round diamonds held in fine claws, each stone standing slightly proud of its neighbor so the ring of white reads as a row of points rather than a smooth border. The head sits up on a thin, flat-topped yellow gold band that carries no stonework at all along the shoulders, which concentrates every bit of brightness into one small area at the top of the finger.
Yellow gold warms the red and softens the jump from stone to halo. The head is compact, not much wider than the band it rises from, and high enough to catch light from the side as well as from above. Ring size 7 US.
