An oval ruby of 1.42 carats sits high on four claws with a full halo of small diamonds around it, the halo set in pale metal on a plain yellow gold shank that narrows as it goes. This is the classic cluster halo proportion, where the diamonds do not compete with the center but enlarge its apparent size, so a stone under a carat and a half occupies the finger like something considerably bigger. The shank is left entirely undecorated, which is a deliberate choice on a ring this top heavy.
