The smoky quartz is checkerboard cut, its crown faceted into a grid of small squares that splits the light into a dark brown lattice rather than one broad flash. Each round stone sits in a white metal rim with small white diamonds gathered into four clusters at the compass points. Below that the earring changes color entirely: a tapered openwork gallery in yellow, paved with yellow diamonds, flares down and outward behind the quartz like a small fan.
Seventeen by eleven millimeters keeps them tight to the lobe, and the two tone split between the white top and the yellow gallery is what stops a brown stone from reading flat.
