The topaz is a cushion of just over eight carats, and its crown is cut in a checkerboard grid rather than a conventional brilliant pattern, so the top breaks into a lattice of small square flashes instead of a few broad ones. Four wide, ornately carved white claws grip it at the cardinal points and stand proud of the girdle, lifting the stone well clear of the finger.
The surround is where the design turns. That halo channel is oxidized to a near black and holds the champagne diamonds, so the warm brown stones sit in dark metal rather than bright, and the ring resolves into three tones at once: cool blue at the middle, a dark rim carrying brown flicker, then polished white where the claws and shoulders take the white diamonds. A few more dark set stones continue onto each shoulder before the band flattens out plain. At size 7 the head spans most of the width of the finger, which is what makes this read as a cocktail ring.
