A single Swiss blue topaz of 11.48 carats, cut as a rounded triangle with a brilliant facet pattern that fills the whole stone with light, is claw set at the center of an openwork silver frame. The frame is not a halo: it is a loose weave of curved ribbons that cross over and behind the stone, so the topaz appears caught in the metal rather than mounted on it. At 45 by 39 millimeters this hangs as a statement piece, and the openwork keeps it from reading as solid at that size.
