The frame of this pendant is a heart worked in openwork silver scrolls, curling in on themselves so that light passes straight through the metal across most of its area. Set into the lower centre is a trillion cut Swiss blue topaz of 4.64 carats, a triangular stone whose flat table and broad facets sit almost flush against the scrollwork behind it.
Because the frame is pierced rather than solid, the topaz is the only dense element in the design and the eye goes to it immediately. The pendant measures 31 by 23 mm in sterling silver, large enough to read clearly at the neckline without carrying much weight.
