A round brilliant Swiss blue topaz of 8.74 carats is suspended inside an open sterling silver circle, held near the top so that empty space shows below it and pierced lotus shaped openwork fills the base of the ring.
The brilliant cut is the right choice at this weight, since the facet pattern breaks light into small flashes rather than the broad flat planes a step cut would give. The circle measures 38 by 28 mm. Because the stone sits within the frame rather than on it, the pendant swings and catches light as it moves.
