A large cushion cut Swiss blue topaz is set east to west across the finger in four prongs, and both shoulders are pave set with black diamonds in darkened metal running up to meet it. Bright pale blue against matte black is a hard contrast and it makes the topaz look colder and cleaner than a white shoulder would. The stone is genuinely the centre here, carrying most of the weight on its own.
