The centre of this ring is a cushion cut Swiss blue topaz of 4.98 carats, rubbed into a smooth silver bezel that runs unbroken around the girdle and gives the stone a clean, hard edge. Around that bezel sits a halo of black diamonds, 0.22 carats in total, pavé set so closely that the row reads as a dark band rather than as a series of separate points.
The contrast is the whole idea: saturated blue against matte black, with polished sterling silver holding the two apart. The shank is plain and squares off gently where it meets the head, so nothing competes with the halo. Ring size 7 US.
