The topaz takes up nearly the whole face of this ring, an oval of 7.18 carats with a wide open table, held in claws so light reaches it from the sides as well as the top. The blue is soft rather than saturated, a clear pale water blue that lightens further toward the edges of the stone.
Each shoulder is pierced into a small scroll carrying a couple of white topaz points, bright dots against the sterling silver. With a stone this size on a band this narrow, the ring is unmistakably top heavy on the hand, and at a size 8 the oval sits lengthwise along the finger.
