Each stud is built as a rosette. One tanzanite sits at the middle, six ovals ring it as petals, and an outer round of smaller ovals opens the whole head out to a full 14 millimeter circle. The stones are prong set individually rather than packed flush, so the outline scallops and every stone keeps its own edge and its own flash.
At conversation distance the color gathers into a single violet blue disc; closer in, the two tiers separate and the center reads a shade deeper than the ring around it. They mount on a post with a friction back and lie flat to the lobe, covering about as much ear as a stud can before it becomes a cluster earring proper.
