Each earring is built in two parts. A straight vertical bar of five graduated round diamonds drops from the post, the stones seated in white metal within a yellow gold rail, and below it a hinged gold loop carries a cushion cut tanzanite held on four rounded prongs.
The hinge is the detail worth knowing about: each stone swings on its own, and the blue-violet turns as it moves at the ear. The tanzanites are large against the slim diamond bar, 5.50 carats across the pair, so the color leads and the diamonds simply draw the eye down to it. Each drop measures 18.3 by 8.4 millimeters.
