An oval tanzanite sits in four yellow gold prongs at the heart of this pendant, its violet-blue reading cool against the warm metal that holds it. Around the stone a scalloped openwork frame in white metal carries forty-seven diamonds in a soft petal outline, and above that a pointed shield of small stones rises into an openwork heart bail. The two metal tones keep the frame visually separate from the stone rather than letting the two blend.
The drop runs 32 millimeters from bail to base and 16 across, so it reads clearly at the neck without much weight behind it. On the 16 inch chain it settles just below the collarbone, the scalloped edges catching light from the sides as it turns.
