Close to twenty oval tanzanites are massed into a single lozenge-shaped plaque here, each one prong set in its own small basket and laid in staggered rows that widen through the middle and taper to a point at each end. There is no center stone at all; the 2.70 carats is spread across the whole cluster, which is why the head covers far more of the finger than that weight alone would suggest.
Tanzanite shows blue and violet depending on the angle it is viewed from, and with this many stones facing slightly different directions the plaque never settles into one flat color. The sterling silver between them is worked into beaded claws that throw light of their own, so the ring stays bright in the gaps as well as through the stones. Size 7, and it reads wide across the hand.
