Two oval emeralds, 8 by 6 millimeters apiece, sit in open four prong baskets of 10K yellow gold. The gallery is cut away beneath each stone so light enters from the sides as well as the face, and the green reads evenly across the whole oval rather than pooling at the center. Posts and friction backs hold the studs flat against the lobe.
Yellow gold pushes green forward in a way white metal does not, and with nothing else in the setting to share attention the color is the entire statement. At 1.42 carats for the pair these are studs with visible width, not points of light.
