A single emerald cut amethyst of 11.46 carats carries this ring on its own, held at the corners by paired claw prongs that leave the long step facets almost entirely uninterrupted. Step cutting is what makes the stone read the way it does: broad parallel planes rather than scattered brilliance, so the colour moves across the table in sheets of grape and lilac rather than sparking.
The sterling silver shank is plain and tapers cleanly into the head, which keeps every line of the mounting subordinate to the stone. On a size 7 finger the amethyst covers most of the width between the knuckles, a proper solitaire cocktail ring rather than a dress ring with a large centre.
