Five carats of ruby, but not in one stone: the heart is pave set with dozens of small round rubies covering its entire face, held in sterling silver with a curved ridge sweeping across it that divides the surface into two lobes. The edge is finished in polished silver. Massed this way the red is continuous and matte rather than brilliant, and at thirty six by thirty two millimetres the pendant is large enough for that field of colour to carry across a room.
