A single pear cut ruby, point up, inside a halo of small round diamonds set in white metal on a polished fourteen karat yellow gold shank. The two metal colours do real work here: the white halo keeps the diamonds bright and holds them apart from the warm band, so the ruby reads against white rather than sitting in a wash of yellow. The shank is plain and slim, leaving the halo as the only decoration.
