The chain is a fine gold plated cable, and everything happens at one point along it: an openwork web disc, pierced with radiating spokes and looping threads, with a small figured spider set beside it on a short connecting bar. The ruby is the spider's body, a round stone in a raised collet, bright pinkish red against all that yellow metal.
At a tenth of a carat the stone is small by design, because the scale here belongs to the web, which is cut as flat openwork rather than a solid charm and lets skin show through the gaps. A lobster clasp finishes the 7.5 inch chain, and the motif sits off to one side of the wrist rather than dead center.
