The butterfly is built around a single emerald cut Swiss blue topaz, 10.60 carats of it set upright as the body of the insect. Its wings are cut away rather than filled, sterling silver ribs sweeping outward in an open framework that lets light through, which keeps a 55 by 28 millimeter pendant from reading as heavy.
The topaz is the only stone here and it does all the work, the long step cut facets holding a clean pale blue against the polished silver. A butterfly pendant on this scale sits wide across the collarbone.
